The Independence Fire Department was established in 1843 making it one of the oldest fire departments west of the Mississippi River. Rich in history and tradition, we pride ourselves on being an organization true to its roots, while maintaining the flexibility to embrace change.
Consisting of 10 fire stations, 15 apparatus, and a staff of 190 dedicated personnel, IFD provides high quality fire protection, fire prevention and emergency services to the citizens and visitors of our city, all day, every day.
