Homebuyer Assistance

The City of Independence does not currently provide direct financial assistance to first-time homebuyers. Homebuyer assistance may be available through the Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC), including its First Place Program for qualified first-time homebuyers and Veterans.

Visit the MHDC First Place Program for current eligibility requirements, income and purchase price limits, available assistance, and participating lenders.

Lien Information

If you previously received homebuyer assistance through the City of Independence and have questions regarding an existing City lien, please contact the Community Development Department at 816-325-7398 for assistance.

If the required period of affordability has been satisfied, the City may issue a Deed of Release. The Deed of Release must be recorded with the Jackson County Recorder of Deeds, and applicable recording fees are the responsibility of the property owner.
