Attention: Most City Offices Relocating

Most City departments are relocating to the Independence Municipal Commons, 20201 E. Jackson Drive, in the coming weeks. We look forward to serving you in our new location!  To avoid any inconvenience, please check ahead before visiting our current Maple Avenue office, as staff and services may be in the process of moving.

Are you ready to play? We are!

The City of Independence is developing a new Parks & Recreation Master Plan to guide future improvements. Ready to Play is based on what residents' value and will become the blueprint for expanding our playgrounds, reimagining our facilities, and creating recreational programming for people of all ages.

Whether you like to play on a trail, play on a soccer field, play on a Pickleball court, or play at a park - Ready to Play is your chance to get in the game and shape what comes next.

What This Plan Covers

  • Park and Playground Features
  • Trails and Nature Centers
  • Sports Fields
  • Recreation Facilities
  • Programs for Adults & Kids

How You Can Participate

  1. Mail-In Survey:
Check your mailbox! A statistically valid community survey is being mailed to random households in Independence. If you receive one, please fill it out and send it back.
  2. Online Survey:
This is an option for everyone. Hop online and let us know your opinions! Our project website offers spots for you to share your thoughts, pin suggestions based on your neighborhood, and complete a short survey. You can also follow along as our project takes shape.
