Applications open for 2025 Citizens Academy

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The City of Independence is accepting applications for its 2025 Citizens Academy.  The deadline to apply is August 1, 2025.

The Citizens Academy is designed to give residents a behind the scenes look at their local government.  Each week, different departments will show what it takes to keep the fifth-largest city in Missouri running.

The Citizens Academy is an eight week course that meets at various locations around Independence on Thursday evenings in August through October.  It is open to Independence residents age 18 and up and does require a background check.  More information, and the application, can be found here: 2025 Independence Citizens Academy.
