Residents impacted by the recent flash flooding can access a wide range of recovery resources at a Disaster Recovery Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) on Saturday, August 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fairmount Community Center, 217 S. Cedar Avenue.

The event is hosted by Kansas City Regional Community Organizations Active in Disasters (COAD) with the assistance of the City of Independence Emergency Preparedness Division.

A MARC is a one-stop location, bringing together local and state agencies, nonprofits, and faith-based organizations to help individuals and families affected by a disaster. MARCs are designed to make the recovery process easier by connecting people with critical resources in a single, convenient location.

Services include:

  • Housing, food, and financial assistance

  • Case management and long-term recovery planning

  • Cleanup supplies and aid in the process

  • Health and Medical resources, including mental health support

“This MARC provides a central place where neighbors can connect with critical resources and take the next steps toward recovery,” said Dante Gliniecki, Emergency Preparedness Division Manager. “We are grateful to our local and regional partners for coming together to support our community during this time.”

Organizations participating include the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Harvesters Food Bank, Missouri Department of Mental Health, United in Crisis-KC, Medical Reserve Corps, Just Serve (LDS), Church of the Resurrection, Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, Team Rubicon, and more.

Residents seeking assistance should bring proof of address, such as a government-issued ID, lease agreement, utility bill, or other official mail.

The event is free and open to the public.
