City of Independence Presents Inaugural ICON Awards Honorees During Pride in Englewood

The City of Independence and the Human Relations Commission are proud to present the inaugural Independence Champion of Non-Discrimination (ICON) Awards to Merideth Rose and Rev. Anthony Mondaine during Pride in Englewood on Saturday, June 28, at 11 AM at the Englewood Arts Center.
Created to spotlight those advancing equity, inclusion, and dignity in our community, the ICON Awards are part of the Human Relations Commission's overarching goal of fostering mutual respect, understanding, and opportunity for all who live, work, and visit Independence.
The 2025 ICON Award honorees are two remarkable individuals whose dedication to uplifting underrepresented communities continues to inspire and empower.
Merideth Rose, CEO of Cornerstones of Care, has transformed personal hardship into healing and change. Under her leadership, the organization serves thousands of families annually and champions youth empowerment, workforce development, and environmental justice through programs like Build Trybe.
Rev. Anthony Mondaine was the first person of color elected to public office in Independence. A pastor, educator, and community leader, his service on the School Board, Juneteenth Committee, and in neighborhoods across the city has created a lasting impact through advocacy, mentorship, and bridge-building.
Join us as we honor these ICONS and celebrate their contributions to a more inclusive Independence.
