Everything you need to know about the 2025 Independence Day Celebration

The City of Independence invites you and your family to come to the Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, July 5, at the Independence Visitors’ Center (937 W. Walnut Street).
This free, family-friendly event is the perfect way to keep the Fourth of July spirit going with:
Live Music
The Spirit of Independence Concert Band will perform at 8:15 p.m. The band will take a brief intermission before returning to play alongside the fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.
Food Trucks
Come hungry and explore a variety of food trucks parked in the Independence Visitors' Center parking lot, including: KC Whip and Company, Hawaii Ice, Jack's Kettle Corn, Tacos El Chilango, Grandma's Mini Donuts, and Weenies & Paninis.
Family Games
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Independence Stake is hosting a fun-filled games area for kids and families, including a Bounce House and Obstacle Course - be sure to stop by and play!
Fireworks Show: Cap off the evening with a dazzling fireworks display at 9:30 p.m., visible from several prime spots including:
- Independence Visitor's Center
- Church of Christ Temple Lot
- Community of Christ Headquarters
- Truman Depot
- Campus RV Park
Schedule
- 5:30 pm Gates Open - Family Games Area and Food Vendors available

Parking and Road Closures:
Motorists should be aware of the following road closures near the Independence Visitors’ Center on July 5.
- River Blvd at Lexington Ave (blocking access to River Blvd)
River Blvd at Pacific Ave (blocking access to River Blvd)
Temple Ct at Lexington Ave (blocking access to Temple Ct)
Walnut St at Temple Ct (blocking access to Walnut St)
Walnut St at Temple Dr (blocking access to Walnut St)
Please pay attention to signage as parking restrictions may vary.
Public Safety and Security:
The City will provide police, fire, and emergency services throughout the event. For everyone's safety:
- No weapons, smoking, pets, alcohol, or outside fireworks allowed.
- Drones are prohibited over crowds per FAA regulations.
- Follow the event on Facebook and City Social Media Channels for weather updates.
If you and your child become separated, please notify the nearest police officer or city booth. Tip: Take a photo of your child before arriving, and make sure they know your contact info or where to go for help.
