Love Where You Live: IndeCleanup Brings Community Together Sept. 27–Oct. 4
From Sept. 27 through Oct. 4, the City of Independence is bringing neighbors, community partners and City resources together for Love Where You Live: IndeCleanup, a community-wide week of cleanup projects and opportunities to care for the places we call home.
Held in conjunction with Missouri Good Neighbor Week, IndeCleanup gives residents several ways to participate, whether that means volunteering for a few hours, getting rid of unwanted items at home or helping provide resources for the effort.
Volunteer
Volunteer projects will take place in parks, public spaces and along major corridors throughout Independence.
MU Extension Master Gardeners are leading projects in several City parks and public spaces, giving volunteers an opportunity to help with gardening, landscape care, cleanup and restoration while learning along the way. Projects are family-friendly and open to all ages.
Volunteer teams will also tackle litter along major roadways throughout the community.
Residents can participate individually or grab their family, friends, coworkers, or groups and volunteer together.
Clean Up at Home
IndeCleanup will also provide opportunities for residents to get rid of unwanted items and debris at home, including curbside bulky-item pickup and neighborhood and citywide drop-off opportunities.
Dates, locations, accepted items, and participation requirements vary by service, so residents should review the details before signing up.
It Takes a Community
Local businesses and organizations are also joining the effort by providing volunteer teams, supplies, equipment and other resources.
The goal extends beyond one cleanup week. IndeCleanup is designed to become a larger effort to clean, beautify, and invest in neighborhoods and public spaces across Independence.
