New Theatre - Rumors - Wednesday, 3/5/2025 Time: 10:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 

Enjoy a wonderful lunch buffet followed by the comedy Rumors written by Neil Simon. Deadline to pre-register: 2/10/2025 Price: $67

 

Fun and Games Wednesday, 3/26/2025 Time: 8:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.

Our first stop will be Moon Marble in Bonner Springs, KS, where an artist will be demonstrating the marble making process. You’ll have time to peruse the displays of antique marble toys and shop in their unique store. The next stop will be Crown Center where you will have time for lunch on your own and shopping or a visit to the Hallmark Visitor’s Center. Our final destination will be The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures. This 33,000 square foot museum houses the world’s largest fine-scale miniature collection and one of the nation’s largest historic toy collections on public display. Let’s Love Bugs Friday, 2/21 at 10:30 a.m.

Bugs, or insects, are the most diverse animals in the world. In this discussion led by a representative of George Owens Nature Park, we will talk about the different kinds of bugs found in Missouri and how they play a beneficial role in their environment and ours!

 

Hands Only CPR Tuesday, 2/25 at 10am

In honor of February being Heart Health Month, Centerpoint Medical Center will be leading a free hands-only CPR training in the main lobby of the Palmer Center. Join us to learn how to recognize a cardiac event and practice delivering hands-only CPR.

 

60+ Pickleball Tournament Saturday, 3/1 at 8:00 a.m.

Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles. Random Draw Brackets with minimum 3 game guaranteed. Registration required by 2/3/2025. Price: $25 per player

 

Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Pain Tuesdays, 3/4 – 4/8 at 9:00 a.m.

Living a healthy life with chronic pain can be a daily challenge, but it doesn't have to be. Learn how small changes to routines, habits, and physical activity can help. This 6-week class is free for adults 60+ thanks to grant funding through Mid-America Regional Council. Registration required by 2/18/2025.

Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles. Random Draw Brackets with minimum 3 game guaranteed. Registration required by 2/3/2025. Price: $25 per player

 

18+ Saturday Court Reservation Available on Saturdays, 9:00—10:00 a.m., 10:15—11:15 a.m., 11:30 a.m.—12:30 p.m.

$25 per court reservation fee per 1 hour session. Payment due at time of reservation. Reservations can be made in person, or by calling 816-325-6200. Reservations may be made up to 4 weeks in advance and are required by the Wednesday before. Nets provided. Players bring their own paddles and balls.

 

Low Vision Resources

If you experience problems with low vision, plan a visit to utilize or perhaps borrow some of our equipment: A variety of magnifiers, check writing guides, and 20/20 pens. Make an appointment to see if we can help meet your needs. A Merlin—a full color auto focus video magnifier system is available for use in the library. Co-sponsored with MO Rehab Services for the Blind. Information on the Wolfner Library and KU’s Audio Reader program are also available

 

Wellness Check Phone Calls

Staff members or volunteers make regular phone calls to seniors in the community to check in and stay in touch. If you would like to be added to the phone call list and receive calls, contact the Palmer Center at 816-325-6200.

 

RideKC Freedom

Older adult transportation and ADA paratransit is available for qualified individuals. It is curb-to-curb transportation that operates Monday-Saturday within the city limits of Independence. Please call RideKC to request an application—816-461-IBUS (4287).

 

United Way 211

United Way 211 is a free referral line that connects people with the community resources and assistance programs they need. The 211-phone line is answered 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. For assistance, visit 211kc.org or dial 211.
