INDEPENDENCE, Mo. –  Join the City of Independence Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department for the grand reopening of Rotary Park's playground.  It will host a special rededication ceremony on Thursday, May 22.

The rededication follows a $135,000 upgrade that brings fresh energy and exciting new play features to one of the city's most popular parks. The revitalized playground now includes trending playground favorites like spinning play elements, balancing pods, and a dynamic new agility course designed to challenge both kids and adults.

Members of the public, elected officials, and local media are invited to attend the rededication and experience firsthand what’s new at Rotary Park.

Rededication Ceremony Details:

Date: Thursday, May 22
Time: 4–4:30 p.m.
Location: Rotary Park, 10615 E 24th St S, Independence, MO
Special Guest: Comet the Dogg from the KC Comets

Thanks to the Parks Improvement Sales Tax—renewed by voters in 2010 and made permanent—this is the first major renovation at Rotary Park in two decades.

“The upgrade to Rotary Park is a fantastic example of how the Parks Improvement Sales Tax delivers long-lasting value to our community,” said Morris Heide, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. “These improvements reflect our commitment to creating spaces that invite everyone to come out, connect, and—most importantly—play.”

Rotary Park’s transformation follows the last major playground renovation at Glendale Park in 2019. Future plans are already in motion to replace playgrounds at Mill Creek and Santa Fe Parks, continuing the momentum to upgrade Independence’s beloved green spaces.
