Independence, MO. - The Independence Fire Department and the American Red Cross need volunteers for a “Sound the Alarm” neighborhood canvas, on Saturday, April 26, 2025. 

This is the second Sound the Alarm event to be held in six months.  Independence Fire staff and volunteers installed 92 smoke alarms in 45 homes in two different neighborhoods in one day in November 2024.

This April's event is being hosted by the Englewood Church, located at 10628 E. Winner Rd, Independence, MO, 64052, and will be held in two sessions, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. 

Volunteers will go door to door in groups, installing smoke alarms in the homes of residents in the Englewood neighborhood of Independence. Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the Salvation Army and Taking it to the Streets.
