Rate schedules for the City of Independence are established by ordinance. Below you will find links for electric, sewer, and water rates.
Attention Utility Customers: New Rates Go Into Effect January 1, 2026
At the October 6, 2025 meeting, the Independence City Council approved new sewer and electric rates that will start on January 1, 2026. Water rates will remain the same.
Changes to Electric Rates
The monthly base charge is increasing $5 for residential and $10 for commercial and industrial customers. Other charges, including those based on your overall power consumption, will remain the same.

Changes to Sewer Rates
The monthly base charge is increasing $2.16 and volume charges are increasing $0.637 per centum cubic feet (ccf). 1 ccf represents 100 cubic feet or about 749 gallons of water.
The average residential customer consumes about 6 ccf each month. Under this change, their monthly sewer bill will increase by $5.98 per month.
