Emergency Preparedness

The Emergency Preparedness Department serves as the city’s designated disaster response agency and emergency operations center with the responsibility for all disaster and emergency management and response coordination. Our mission is to protect the City of Independence by coordinating and integrating all activities necessary to build, sustain, and improve the capability to prevent, mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from threatened or actual natural disasters, acts of terrorism, or other emergency events through a comprehensive, risk-based, all-hazard emergency management program.
