Councilmember Heather Wiley was elected to her first term on the Independence City Council in April 2024. Wiley previously served on the City of Independence Planning Commission for six years and is a current member of the Independence Junior Service League.

Born and raised in Independence, Wiley received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design from the University of Kansas. She has had a successful career in design and art direction with such notable companies as Hallmark Cards, Russell Stover Candies and HOK Sport. Wiley is a freelance art director/designer.

Wiley has also prioritized public service throughout her life, and has served as a volunteer for Children's Mercy Hospital, Laubach Literacy, Missouri Mission of Mercy, and Project Shine. She is a current volunteer in the clinic at KC Pet Project. 

Wiley and her husband Matt live in the house that his grandparents built in Golden Acres. They have three grown children.
