Councilmember Jared Fears

Jared A. Fears was elected as an At-Large Councilmember in April 2022. He has lived in Independence since his family moved here in 1972. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1978. He received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Graceland University in 1982 and went on to receive a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas in 1993. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Practitioner.

Jared is an Eagle Scout and volunteers as a Scout Leader. He served on the Public Safety Tax Oversight Committee for three years and is involved in his church and several other not-for-profit organizations in the community. Jared is married to Denise and has three children and two grandchildren.
