Independence was working to address healthful food disparities, reduce health disparities, and decrease cases of COVID-19 in Independence residents.

Populations served included racial and ethnic minority groups residing in Independence as well as those with a disability, living in poverty, and/or without computer access.

These activities aligned with the Statewide Health Disparities Initiative’s goals of reducing COVID-19 related disparities and control of infection/transmission.

The Independence Health and Animal Services Department was unable to purchase food. If you are looking for food assistance, please visit Community Action Agency of Greater Kansas City for a list of local food pantries.

Households were eligible if they had at least one member that have recently tested positive for Covid-19, diagnosed with Long Covid, or was participating in one of the following programs: TANF, WIC, Unemployment, SNAP/EBT, Disability, Medicaid, or Medicare. Households below the federal poverty guideline were also eligible.

We offered Hy-Vee+ and Instacart+ subscriptions.

The subscription lasts for 1 year.
