Planning Commission

The duties of the Planning Commission are to prepare and recommend to the City Council a master plan for physical development; regulations governing the subdivision, and zoning plan or ordinances; to make recommendations to the Council on approval or disapproval of plats, and to submit to the City Manager a list of recommended public improvements.  

 

The Commission reviews the applications in terms of the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) , City Code, the Comprehensive Plan, and other applicable codes. 

Members of the public fill the seats of the Council Chambers as they watch the Council conduct a meeting from the dais.

 

You can submit your Planning Commission application and attachments via email to CDPlanning@indepmo.org.  In order to be considered a complete application, after you email the documents, you will need to call 816.325.7063 to make a credit card payment over the phone.   

Planning Commission Meetings

Planning Commission Meetings generally occur on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6 p.m. in the Independence City Hall Council Chambers, located on the lower level of the building at 111 E. Maple Ave.

Agendas & Minutes

  • Each agenda include the Minutes from the previous meeting. See the 'Approval of Minutes' section. 

The City Council shall appoint seven members, each to four year terms to expire on July 1. The Mayor and City Manager shall also be ex-officio members to serve in a liaison capacity.

  • Heather Wiley, term expires July 1, 2027, appointed by Councilmember Perkins
  • Laurie Dean Wiley, term expires July 1, 2025, appointed by Councilmember Stewart
